Spend it on the play, not the pillow

As the only hostel in Ashland, we think everyone should get to experience the town we love. From the Oregon Shakespeare Festival to the walkable downtown, Lithia Park, and Mt. Ashland, this place is famous for good reason. Since 1998, travelers, adventurers, and theatergoers have shared our bunkrooms, and that spirit of sharing is what keeps it affordable for everyone.

Staying here feels like crashing at a friend’s apartment, with clean, comfortable traditional hostel-style bunkrooms, fully equipped kitchens you can actually cook in, and common spaces to spread out and meet people. Every bunk comes made up with fresh bedding, a pillow, and a towel. We offer free parking & wifi, with affordable laundry on site.

Whether you’re a theater-kid here for the OSF, a retiree breaking up an I-5 road trip, or thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, you belong here. We are not a party hostel. Between our female-only dorm, on-site staff, and a few simple house guidelines like a lights-out time in the bunkrooms, we want everyone to feel comfortable, with plenty of room to relax and make friends.

Experience Artistic Ashland, Inside a Large-Scale Art Installation

Founded almost 30 years ago, Ashland Commons Hostel is essentially a large-scale art installation by this point.

What started as an attempt by artists and former Ashland Commons Hostel owners Rob Joseph and Linda Lanzhammer to surround the doorways with hand-laid tiles has expanded into likely millions (?) of tiles forming mosaics that now cover nearly the entire building.

From a distance the tiles glint in the sun. Up close you’ll see grapes, guitars, there’s an octopus and migrating sea life, a soaring bird, even pizza.

And odds are you’ll spot Rob himself up on his scaffolding, still adding new mosaics. The building isn’t finished, and maybe it never will be.

Our Spaces

By Hikers, For Hikers

Voted favorite resupply town in Oregon by Pacific Crest Trail thru-hikers for ten years running, Ashland is one of the most famous trail towns along the entire PCT.

Every summer the bubble rolls in, first a trickle, then a flood through July, August and September. Many of them stay with us.

We’re more than just a warm bed. We’re a home base in everyone’s favorite trail town, with theater, an actual dining scene, and a walkable downtown with independent shops.

And we aren't just 'hiker friendly.' We're PCT-hiker owned, Class of '25, and PCT-hiker staffed. The trail took care of us, so we pay it forward with real respect, not the kind that tolerates you until you've paid.

As the only hostel in town, we see it as our job to keep Ashland a stop hikers can actually afford, even as everything gets more expensive, so the ones coming up behind us get the same trail we did.

No matter what trail you're on or how far you're going, if you're a hiker, you belong here.

You’re less than a mile away from downtown Ashland and the famous Lithia Park.

Guests Get 20% off Oregon Shakespeare Festival Tickets

We love theater, and we want more people to see it.

As an Oregon Shakespeare Festival lodging partner, your stay comes with a discount code for 20% off OSF tickets, our way of getting more guests into the theaters that have made Ashland famous for 90 years.

We’re proud to put our name on this because OSF performances are world-class, and because the discount is genuine. OSF ticket prices vary by day, theater, and section, but they’re set by the festival and the same for everyone. So 20% off comes off the listed price, not some inflated number.

And it’s much more than just Shakespeare, with modern plays in addition to the classics. The season runs March through October, drawing hundreds of thousands of theatergoers annually to three downtown theaters including the crown-jewel outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theater.

By pairing the most affordable bed in town with our 20% OSF ticket discount, you don’t have to spend a fortune to have an amazing experience.
